LAUNCHING OF THE MaPSA 60TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
15 November 2019
The Minor Basilica and Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
MORRIS D. AGUILAR
MaPSA Administrative Officer for Communications
MaPSA marked its 60th Founding Anniversary with the theme, “SISENTA NA PO TAYO... MaPSAYA!” last November 15, 2019 with a Launching Mass held at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, also known as the Manila Metropolitan Cathedral presided by the Chairman and President of MaPSA, His Eminence, Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle, Archbishop of Manila.
The Eucharistic celebration was concelebrated by His Excellencies: Most. Rev. Mylo Hubert C. Vergara, Bishop of Pasig, Most Rev. Honesto F. Ongtioco, Bishop of Cubao and Most Rev. Renato P. Mayugba, Bishop of Laoag together with the Superintendents, Priest-Directors, Cluster Heads and former Priest-Directors of MaPSA member schools.
Cardinal Tagle, in the first part of his homily, has the following to say:
“It comes as no surprise that the Church which is the Body of Christ will continue the presence and the mission of Christ through teaching.”
Nagkataon lang na the educational ministry became more formal. But it is not only through schools that the Church teaches, educates and forms. All aspects of the Church’s mission is educational, formative. Kaya nasa dugo ng Simbahan ang edukasyon.”
“According to Vatican II, the schools of the Church are supposed to form men and women through the development of their intellectual capacities, the development of the values, the development of their missionary engagement that the educational institutions form good citizens of society and also good Christians – magkasama yun; pagiging mabuting mamamayan at mabuting Kristiyano. Knowledge and faith should come together, support each other rather that fight each other.
In the last part of his homily, Cardinal Tagle said:
In the church the term is communion. Pasalamatan at baka may matututunan tayo.”
Walking together because we have only one mission, we have only one humanity to serve and here we have one nation, and we have one common home, our earth to take care of. That’s part of the wisdom that comes from the Lord.”
“Let us pause and as we thank God, we renew our commitment to this beautiful commission the Lord has given to the Church and to MaPSA.”
The gathering was attended by more than 700 school personnel- and student-delegates from 9 Diocesan Systems.
